the eagle mama first places her baby on her back, then glides through the air, majestic wings riding the currents. her baby sits atop happily, enjoying the chill of the wind. then suddenly, the mama flips and drops her baby eaglet.
the eaglet is hurtling through the air, towards the fast approaching ground. what should he do?! where is his mama?! how could she do this to him?! why has she abandoned him?! as the ground grows closer and closer, the eaglet getting more and more desperate, right before he crashes, eagle mama swoops in out of nowhere, catches her baby, and carries him safely back to his nest.
again and again, eagle mama drops and saves the baby eaglet. he is first despaired, then apprehensive, then doubtful. gradually, he learns how to turn his body in the correct position to slow down his fall. he discovers that when he opens his tiny wings, it catches the breeze and pushes him afloat for awhile. until one day, finally, as the eaglet is dropped again from the safety of his mother's broad back, he spreads his wings and flies.
not all eaglets are as complacent as this one. there are many stubborn baby eaglets out there, who curse and rebuke their mama, refusing to acknowledge that this is the only way for them to learn to fly. in desperation for her babies to learn what those wings are for, the eagle mama tears at the nest, clawing all of the eaglet's shelter to shreds, until he has nothing to hold onto. without anything to hide in, anything to return to, the baby eaglet has no choice but fend for himself, and slowly he too, learns to soar.
You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. Exodus 19:4
our papa eagle, our Father in Heaven, wants us to be Eagle Christians. He wants us to have all of the eagle's majesty and grace. sometimes we find ourselves in horrible situations. we find trials adn tribulations have suddenly taken a fancy to us and are throwing themselves in our faces. we feel hopeless and alone, forced out of our comfort zones, our security torn asunder. but because of all these troubles, we learn to rise. we overcome and we conquer. we step up and out. we soar like eagles.
so don't blame God. don't accuse Him of abandoning you, of cursing you, of throwing misfortunes upon you. i dont think the eagle mama was happy to see her baby so angry and frustrated and afraid, but she knew it was the only way for him to fly. God doesn't want you to be distressed or anything. He wants you to learn to fly. Do you know that eagles are the only birds that fly above storms? that's what God wants us to do.
fly above the storm, with Him.
hide me now under Your wings cover me within Your mighty hands
when the oceans rise and thunders roar i will soar with You above the storm Father you are king above the flood i will be still, and know You are God
